The ASD Workshop was initiated in 2016 to provide a scientific communication channel to learn and exchange about selective deposition techniques. It has since offered a forum for open discussions between researchers from academia and industry. The meeting will include one day of Tutorials followed by the Workshop at ETEC Building (University at Albany). The last day of the workshop will highlight the state of the art of SC devices and processes at NY state with invited presentation from our main industrial partners at Albany Nanotech complex.

The 2026 Area Selective Deposition Workshop (ASD 2026) will take place March 29-April 1, 2026, at the University at Albany in New York, but it will be in two different locations:

ETEC Building

March 29-31, 2026
1220 Washington Ave, Albany, NY, 12226

Opened in Fall 2021, ETEC is UAlbany’s newest research and teaching facility and houses many of the university’s core R&D activities in weather and climate, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness and homeland security, environmental and sustainable engineering and artificial intelligence. It is home to the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, UAlbany’s AI Plus Institute, the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, the best-in-class New York State Mesonet and the university’s tech transfer and startup support offices. ETEC is also fully electric and LEED Platinum certified, heated and cooled by a massive geothermal well field beneath its parking lot. These and other sustainable features won ETEC recognition by the Green Building Council of Upstate New  York as 2023 Green Building of the Year.

Albany NanoTech Complex

April 1, 2026
257 Fuller Rd, Albany, NY 12203

Located across the street from the University at Albany’s Uptown Campus, the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex is North America’s largest and most advanced semiconductor R&D facility. First established in 1997 by UAlbany with significant investments from New York State and industrial partners, the Albany NanoTech Complex is now operated by a state-supported nonprofit called NY CREATES, which spearheads industry R&D and consortia. At $1.65 million square feet and growing, Albany NanoTech is a hub for some 3,000 employees and more than $20 billion in investment over the years. The complex spans nine buildings, with another, NanoFab Reflection, currently under construction to house a new High NA Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography Center. Albany NanoTech also is home to UAlbany’s Department of Nanoscale Science & Engineering, as well as industrial partners including IBM, Applied Materials, and Tokyo Electron.

MAP & DIRECTIONS

The University at Albany

The University at Albany is one of the most diverse public research institutions in the U.S. and a national leader in educational equity and social mobility. A Carnegie-classified R1 institution and one of the State University of New York’s four University Centers, UAlbany preliminarily reported nearly $472 million in R&D activity in fiscal 2024. Across nine schools and colleges, UAlbany faculty and students are advancing our understanding of the world in fields such as artificial intelligence, atmospheric and environmental sciences, business, education, public health, social sciences, criminal justice, emergency preparedness, engineering, public administration, social welfare and the humanities.

UAlbany’s location in New York’s capital city offers students, faculty and staff a unique opportunity to understand the nexus between science, technology and public policy. And through our parallel commitments to academic excellence, scientific discovery and service to community, UAlbany molds bright, curious and engaged leaders and launches great careers.

College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering

For more than two decades, UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE) has been a trailblazer in microelectronics and semiconductor education, research and workforce development. What is now known as CNSE was instrumental in founding Albany NanoTech’s wildly successful lab-to-fab model of R&D collaboration between industry and higher education. Tracing its origins to pioneering research in areas such as ion beam analysis, nuclear physics and superconductivity in UAlbany’s Physics Department, UAlbany’s microelectronics research and academic programs rapidly evolved throughout the 1990s alongside the explosive growth of Albany NanoTech.

In 2004, UAlbany founded the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering as the nation’s first college dedicated to nanotechnology and related disciplines. Today, CNSE spans four academic departments offering 18 bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs —including eight focused specifically on nanoscale science and engineering and two with the option for an MD. In 2024, the college launched three new advanced certificates in semiconductor metrology, manufacturing and patterning and processing and also offers a microcredential in semiconductor devices, materials and processes. CNSE’s Department of Nanoscale Science & Engineering is located at the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex, and its facilities include a 200mm Innovation Lab for teaching, technology acceleration and prototyping.
